Hi, thanks for the useful tips. Just one point to note about affiliates including text links pointing to Groupon in their posts. These links invariably points to Groupon main site, which is updated on a daily basis. As such I ran into the problem of readers seeing another product altogether if they try accessing it on a different day.
For example, in my food review site http://www.londonchow.com, I used to put a banner with the lovely looking sushi right up at the top. However, some readers will be seeing say massages deals on certain days when they clicked on it, thus reducing chances of them signing up.
I wonder whether there is any way of getting round this. Thanks.
Thanks for raising this as many people are unclear about it!
Affiliate links point to the Groupon homepage by default. This is geo-targeted, so sends people to the page for the city closest to them.
However, if you want to link to a specific deal, you can do this by sticking your affiliate link and the direct deal link together.
Check out “This Week’s Big Tip” in Vol. 22 of the Weekly newsletter for instructions on how to do this.
Thanks for your reply, Bill. I’m certainly one of those who didn’t know about “&p=”.
I notice that Groupon has a restaurant promotion everyday. Would there be a specific link that would like to only restaurant promotions so that I wouldn’t have to update the link on the daily basis?
Thanks!
Hi London Chow,
There isn’t currently a way to show people only restaurant deals, but this is something that’s on the way in the not too distant future!
For the time being, the best option we can offer is our food themed banners which you can see in the targeted banners section.
Thanks for the great review. i will look to put some of these top tips to good use.
I use Joomla CMS and have never had a problem with it. I have also noticed that there is an extension to run Groupon for Joomla too and this appears to be free.
Although I haven’t implemented it at the moment, it is something I will be doing in the future and will check back here to let you guys know how it works.
Hi Chris,
Glad you found it useful.
The Joomla extension is actually from Groupon US, so it’s coded for Commission Junction and not Affiliate Window.
We’re always looking into providing new tools for our affiliates to promote us with, and Joomla/Wordpress extensions are something that will probably arrive before too long.
do you have an affiliate program for Australia?
Thanks rob
Hi Rob,
You can find the Australian affiliate programme on Zanox here.
Hope that helps!

Hi Will, I’d like to use the Groupon WordPress plugin that I’ve seen mentioned elsewhere but I can’t find it. Is there still one in use? And if so, where could I find it?
Hi Ian, unfortunately we haven’t got a WordPress plugin in the UK at present. I’d recommend checking out our iFrame solution which has produced great results since being launched it last month. Let me know if you need any assistance with anything!
